Grand Hyatt Kochi
India
The designs for the new-build resort draws from local
architectural elements such as window shutters and
Jali screens, creating a contemporary interpretation on
traditional and regional South Indian features.
The spa takes on a calm and controlled approach,
referencing local wood carvings and henna markings,
deconstructed and applied spatially. A minimal material
palette creates a sense of simplicity and serenity across
the expansive space, punctuated with moments of
pattern and interest. Careful space-planning and the
use of nodes emphasises the transition between areas -
both physically and mentally.
The all-day dining restaurant captures a humble
and informal tone through texture and materiality,
using locally made bricks, terracotta and ceramic tiles.
Overlapping food counters at varying heights with
suspended shelving, creates a dynamic backdrop
for the F&B offerings and adds to the informality
reminiscent of road-side vendors and markets.
